Medical Aesthetic Devices 

During the last three decades medical aesthetic treatments have undergone a period of tremendous change. Until the early 1980's cultivating one's looks was mainly achieved through body sculpting by physical exercise, grooming in beauty salons and skin nourishing treatments (facial masks, hydrating lotions etc.).


As medical science advanced procedures designed to help obtain and maintain a youthful attractive appearance emerged. Such procedures were generally referred to as cosmetic medicine as well as plastic surgery.




In fact many cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were based on treatments previously designed to assist in coping with genuine debilitating medical conditions. For instance, the famous "Nose Job" (rhinoplasty) cosmetic plastic surgery procedure has its origins in surgical procedures conducted to fix physiological problems in the structure of the nose and nasal passages.


It is true to say that medical science only turned to aiding in cultivation of bodily appearances after there were procedures on which medical aesthetic treatments could be based upon.

Non-Intrusive Medical Aesthetic Treatments

In the not so distant past the main bulk of medical aesthetic treatments available was of the intrusive type. Among these were plastic surgery procedures still popular today, such as nose jobs, liposuction, face lifts, bottom tucks, breast implants etc.


Since the mid 1980's, and especially during the 1990's and the beginning of the third millennium,more and more non intrusive medical aesthetic treatments were developed. Today there are countless medaesthetic clinics around the world offering treatments ranging from unwanted hair removal, through body sculpting, skin rejuvenation and much more.

Types of Technologies Used

There are several types of technologies used in medical aesthetic treatments. Among these the main ones are laser (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of radiation), IR (Infra Red), Ultrasound and other phototherapeutic technologies. In most medical aesthetic clinics there will also be a Radio Frequency machine.


The technologies used in medical aesthetic treatments are not ones which were developed especially to this end. Rather, they are technologies which were used in the field of medicine (and in other fields) long before their adaption for use in the medical aesthetic field.


The way in which the medical aesthetic radio frequency machine came to be is a little different.

The Radio Frequency Machine 

Most technologies used in the medical aesthetic field are ones previously adapted for medical use in general. The medical aesthetic radio frequency Machine is somewhat of an exception to this rule.


Radio frequency technology was one of the first technologies to be used in non-intrusive medical aesthetic treatments, along with laser and IR (Infra Red)

The radio frequency machine works by generating radio frequency energy which is directed at fatty tissue layers. These layers are thus caused to heat up.

Through this generation of heat effects of fat reduction and of increased collagen production can be obtained.


Radio frequency technology is used in body sculpting medical aesthetic treatments and for skin rejuvenation. In many cases a radio frequency machine is used to supplement a treatment utilizing another type of technology (laser, for example).

Medical Aesthetic Multiple Technology Machines 

Some leading medical aesthetic equipment manufacturers have taken to developing machines which combine different technological capabilities.

A good example is the "Omnimax" by "sharplight", this single machine places in the hands of medaesthetic professional no less than four different technologies, i.e. Laser, DPC (Dynamic Pulse Control), IR (Infra Red) and RF (Radio Frequency).


In this way not only is there no need for purchasing a specific apparatus for each type of medical aesthetic technology but also clinic staff can easily use more than one technology per treatment.
